המרפסת ורחבת הריקודים היא מטפורה של לינסקי וחפץ לשתי הפוזיציות שההמנהיג ההסתגלותי חייב לשהות בהן, באופן דיאלקטי, ולא פעם במקביל. המרפסת הוא המרחב שממנו ניתן להתבונן על ההתרחשות ולהמשיג אותה. רחבת הריקודים הוא המרחב שבו השינוי מתרחש בפועל.
